Happy Friday! I had the pleasure of experiencing some of the best Mesa, AZ has to offer with Visit Mesa and am sharing our first day. Once arriving to Mesa in the afternoon I checked in to the Residence Inn Phoenix Mesa. It was such a lovely hotel that was recently renovated and close to all of the fantastic attractions. I loved the big rooms that included a separate living room, a kitchen with a full size refrigerator, and such a comfortable bed! After unpacking I met up with the other gals on the tour for lunch at Worth Takeaway. YUM!!! Everything on the menu was fresh and delicious and focused on local ingredients. I got the chicken salad which is actually on the menu as a sandwich, but one of the cool things you can do at this restaurant is make any sandwich a salad served over fresh greens with sweet potatoes. It was delicious!
After lunch we strolled to Sweet Cakes Cafe for dessert where I had the most delicious snickerdoodle cookie! This was a pit stop en-route to our tour of the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum and painting class at the Mesa Arts Center. Both the outside and inside of this establishment is gorgeous. The center offers shows, classes, a museum, and all sorts of events. It’s the largest arts center in the state of AZ & such a fun place to learn something new and try out a different skill. Check out www.mesaartscenter.com to see what fun events are on the horizon!
We had the pleasure of trying out a fun watercolor class. It’s a lot harder than it looks, but we had a great instructor!
This is what the tree was supposed to look like. 🙂
This is what my tree looked like. #FAIL. Actually, none of us did a bad job. It was pretty neat to see how everyone’s turned out differently and to actually experience how watercolor works.
On our stroll back to the car to get ready for dinner we passed by the coolest wall that Mesa has to offer. It’s so pretty and colorful, and a piece of art that all can enjoy.
We finished the day with dinner at Matta’s Grill & Cantina. Another big ol’ YUM for the list! This Mexican restaurant has been open since 1953 and you could tell they perfected their recipes. The margarita was delicious, the guacamole was perfection, and the fajitas made my mouth oh so happy. It was the perfect way to end our first night in Mesa.
We headed back to our rooms at Residence Inn Phoenix Mesa for the night as we had a big day ahead exploring more of what Mesa has to offer. I finished of my snickerdoodle cookie and had a wonderful nights rest! More on the tour to come, so stay tuned!
