Happy Tuesday! Today’s blog post is a little different, but very important. Why you ask? Well…we have so many opportunities to help others like Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company does. Jewelers Mutual is set to donate a total of $2 million to support three causes- health, home & hunger. Three things we too often take for granted. Jewelers Mutual is doing this through a corporate giving campaign called “Band Together,” which is exactly what we as a nation should be doing in all aspects of life. The nonprofits benefiting are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Banks Canada. This is partially where you come in. YOU can help Jewelers Mutual decide how to disperse the $2 million they donate by voting for your choices until July 31st, 2016 11pm CT. $1 million dollars will go to the cause that receives the most votes by the end of July. The runner-up will receive $700,000 and $300,000 will go to the third-place winner. When you vote, you’ll be entered for a chance to win weekly jewelry prizes from STACKED New York. Each week one winner will receive a set of 3 stacking bands ($450 retail value), so vote daily to increase your chances of winning this fabulous prize! If donating money isn’t in your budget there’s plenty of other things you can do to support the Jewelers Mutual Band Together campaign. Donate supplies needed for activities at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or you can even donate blood and platelets. Help build & renovate homes for Habitat Humanity, or volunteer at a ReStore resale outlet. Become a local food bank volunteer with Feeding America, or throw a dinner party & ask your guests to donate to charity instead of bringing a side dish.
There are so many unique ways you can volunteer in your community aside from donating funds. Volunteering is equally as important, & charities need all the help they can get. Visit your local homeless shelter & help cook & serve meals. Start your own fundraiser or organize a yard sale for charity. Volunteer at your local school or coach a local youth team. Help gather supplies for schools of underprivileged children that can’t afford basic things such as backpacks, pencils & paper. I’ve volunteered at a store to help sort & organize clothes & home goods for the less fortunate, a Senior Center to help prepare & serve meals, as well as simply spend time with the individuals there. I’ve volunteered for a local non-profit by rubbing chickens for events that would feed the least & the lost, & partook in those events to feed the hungry. The options are endless. A small amount of your time can go so far, & you will never know the positive impact you’re helping make on individuals lives. People need our help & we can give it. Let’s all Band Together & help make this world a better place.
